Good food and Wine

The Loire valley really does have living down to an art, bursting with delicious treats and leaving visitors well and truly spoilt for choice! Go and meet the vinegrowers who work here and try their best wines on a tour of their tourist wine cellars. Sancerre, Coteaux du Giennois, Cheverny, Chinon, not forgetting the sparkling Vouvray … there are over twenty AOC wines to enjoy.

Sink your teeth into something more substantial by having a nibble of one of the region's goat's cheeses – Sainte-Maure de Touraine, Selles-sur-Cher, crottin de Chavignol, Valençay… – after tucking into some Touraine pork rillons, Sologne wild game, Jargeau andouille sausage or fresh pike served in a beurre blanc white sauce.

For something fruity have a bite of one of the juicy apples or pears grown in the Loire Valley orchards, or savour the mouthwatering Mara des bois strawberry from Sologne. Finally, to satisfy your sweet tooth, give in to one of the region's tempting speciality desserts, beginning with the tarte Tatin, the star of Sologne puddings, and a Pithiviers puff-pastry tart or moist cake made with almonds. Biscuit lovers won't be able to refuse a palet solognot, prasline de Montargis orcotignac d’Orléans!

Local producers, market stalls, restaurants and typical inns look forward to serving up the full range of good food on offer in the Loire valley – sometimes rustic and simple, at others the epitome of fine dining.
